What are striae?
Striae are small scars in the skin that result from the chapping of the elastic fibres under the surface of the skin. They occur as small blue, pink or silver cracks. They form especially during sudden changes in weight, fast growth and in women after childbirth.
The problem of striae does not only affect women, but men too. In men, striae are primarily caused by doing sports whereby the muscles rapidly grow bigger (mainly bodybuilding).
Striae occur most often in the area of:
They can also be found on the shoulders or back.
What is the procedure for treating striae?
Unfortunately, there is no way to fully remove striae. However, a cosmetic intervention can help through a long term process. For prevention, the specialists on the Dermatology Ward of the Asklepion Clinic recommend regular treatment of critical areas with special ointments like Bepanthene Plus. This ointment helps the skin to grow and so resist chapping.
At Asklepion, we work also work with the most modern lasers, whichcan significantly improve the appearance of striae - by as much as 50 %. The treatment of striae is a fast and almost painless procedure that is provided as an ambulatory treatment directly at the clinic.
Striae treatment with laser and radiofrequency
We recommend undergoing treatment with the biostimulative laser at the moment you notice the first signs of striae. Such treatment will ensure that the striae heal faster and with repeated treatment will get whiter faster, instead of becoming red and deep.
Fractional radiofrequency eMatrix and eTwo
This is the best proven way to treat striae. Fraction radiofrequency works on the principle of electromagnetic energy. It is suitable for all skin phototypes and the recovery time after treatment is very quick - it takes only a few hours.
This is recommended for the treatment of red striae. The laser beam interrupts the blood supply to the stria, which quickens its discolouring. Vbeam is also able to partly remodel the stria.
Older striae can be treated with Smoothbeam or GentleYAG lasers. These are often successful in completely smoothing out the stria.
Striae treatment with massage
It is possible to contract and reduce striae with a vacual masssage. We use Dermosonic, Aerosonic or LPG devices for these massages.
What to do after striae treatment?
- Expect small erythema that will fade away within two days.
- Enjoy blood circulation promoting masssages.
- Carefully grease the treated areas.
- Moisturize your body.
- Massage the problematic areas regularly.
