Dental implants

Dental implants

  • The perfect tooth replacement performs all the functions of the original tooth
  • Long-lasting results, thanks to quality materials
  • Painless procedure - we numb the treated area

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth without interfering with the remaining teeth. Implants can be used to make a fixed replacement or hold a removable replacement. Professionally installed implants can last for many years. Do not delay in seeing a dentist. After tooth loss, bone loss gradually occurs. In some cases, the missing bone must first be replaced before implantation.

ALL ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANTS

USE OF IMPLANTS

Implants act as artificial dental roots that can support solid prosthetic work – crowns or bridges. Implants allow us to permanently replace teeth, from one tooth to the entire dental arch. However, implants can also serve to hold removable bridges especially in the lower jaw. The installation of two implants is usually sufficient for this purpose. The bridge “clicks” on the implants in the same way as snap fasteners, and thus it reliably holds in place.

CONSULTATION

A sufficient amount of bone is needed to install the implant. This is why we take a three-dimensional X-ray (CBCT) as part of the pre-operative examination, which allows us to accurately analyse the area where the implant is to be installed. This allows the operation to be planned in advance. If there is not enough bone or soft tissue for implantation, its augmentation will be included in the treatment plan. In rare cases, due to unfavourable conditions, we may recommend an alternative solution instead of implants.

SURGERY

Implant installation usually takes place under local anaesthesia. The patient perceives touch and pressure, otherwise the procedure is painless. Surgeries can also be performed under controlled sedation or general anaesthesia. After a simple implant installation, there are minimal postoperative difficulties. If bone or soft tissue replenishment is necessary, the main postoperative symptom is swelling, which lasts about six days.

MAKING A REPLACEMENT

After installation, the implant heals for several weeks, gradually fusing into the bone. After healing, a crown or other prosthetic work is created and placed on top of the implant. In some cases, we can put a crown on an implant immediately after it is installed; in other cases, we can even install the implant immediately after a tooth extraction and place a crown on it immediately, all in one visit. However, this is only temporary and is replaced with a more permanent crown after the implant has healed. The timing of all steps is part of the treatment plan which the patient will know in advance.
